rumor has it...

Rumor has it that I have been late on posting pictures. I pretty much got yelled at yesterday by my sister Leslie for not having posted pictures from a pretty big event- Easter. See what happens when I DON'T bring my camera places, David Marshall?! {Who dared me not to take one picture all day} I guess someone I can't go anywhere without her best friend camera. I didn't last an hour before picking one up. Thanks for sending me the pictures I took on your camera, Lauren. haha. xo
Every Easter {since we stopped hunting Easter eggs} Dad comes up with a creative competitive brain teasers involving cash rewards! It is awesome. This year we played "Riddle me this." Tison and I found out quick that riddles are not our strong suit. However, I did enjoy the noise makers Dad gave us to use as buzzers! So, I leave with this:

What can run but never walks,
has a mouth but never talks,
has a bed but never sleeps,
has a head but never weeps?

{the answer is...here.}

mother's day 2012

Tison and I decided to host Mother's Day at the house for both of our families this year. I have to admit I was a little bit nervous when he mentioned the idea a few weeks ago. My thoughts drifted from: "How are we going to fit 12 people at the dining room table?" to "Do we have enough silverware?"and "OMG- I need to clean the bathroom... and locate the floor in my bedroom!" He knows by now that if there is a way to get the house sparkling clean, it's to invite people over. I turn into Miss Merry Maid herself (or miss OCD).  Anyway, I wanted the four Moms that were joining us to feel special and appreciated. We grilled chicken, made potato salad, and rolls. The rest of the "kids" brought salad, broccoli and cheese casserole, baked beans, 7 layer dip, cookies, cupcakes, Amish cake, and Strawn's strawberry pie! My absolute favorite part of the day was sitting in my living room with Lauren, Leslie, and Mom. The record player was turning The Hollies and we were dancing like fools on the Barney show to entertain Hudson. He was giggling the cutest laugh imaginable. It was like we all realized how ridiculous we were acting at one time and busted out laughing- that good full laugh that you feel all the way down to your toes. aaahhh, it was magnificent. This is what life is about, these little moments.

Happy Mother's Day to the Queens of the Day: Mom, Lauren, Mrs. Chris, and Mrs. Peggy!
I hope you all had a wonderful day; I know I did. xoxo

lately through the linz...

It's been about 3 months since I have shared an IPhone photo update!
Here is what's been happening "lately through the linz" - restaurant addition:

Links to these Shreveport Restaurants shown above:
Their summer libations list is amazing! Go get a Pimms cup. You won't regret it.

Let's be honest, I'm not really a chain restaurant kinda gal, but Copeland's butter biscuits stand alone.

All the toppings choices are nice, but I'd prefer a humphrey with fruit, granola, and honey.

Turkey Melt and a Humphrey Yogart will lift your spirits every time. Why choose any other yogurt place?

Arguably the best burger in town, though there's no contest that it IS the best bread in town.

Fried pickle spears, beef quesadillas, and a burger on Texas toast? How could this be bad?

Unless you have been living under a rock, you have had (and been drunk on) a Superior Margarita. This place is always a good time, I just wish you didn't smell literally like grill when you left.

A little rough around the edges, however their chopped beef sandwich was as good as it was messy. (and it was really messy)

I prefer Ichiban or Tokyo personally, but the Monkey Brain's appetizer was something I will want again.

The turkey burger is Amaaah-zing!

I can't believe I am admitting that I like bone-in buffalo wings from Wingstop, but what can I say? Delish.

This is my favorite Chinese restaurant. Period.

my first Indian wedding...

Have I mentioned before on the blog that I work for neurosurgeons? Well, I work for neurosurgeons. My current position is Editorial and Events Manager. {recently promoted, thank you very much!} One of the neuro residents recently got married and Katie and I attended the Indian festivities held at Eastridge Country Club in saris, an Indian garment often worn to weddings. These two lovebirds had quite a weekend with Friday's Catholic ceremony and Saturday's Vedic wedding ceremony! Saturday's ceremony kicked off with unusual but tasty cocktails before the Barat. The Barat is when the groom arrives for the wedding on a horse. Accompanied by loud music, his family and friends danced around him, escorting him to the bride's family. I don't know about you, but having the groom arrive on a horse with loud Indian music while men, women, and children dance along was new to me! I was giddy with excitement.
The bride's family welcomes the groom's family and they exchange garlands, as a sign of the joining of the families. Then the wedding ceremony begins. Many prayers are offered in the Sanskrit language before the bride even enters the ceremony. (You just thought a Catholic wedding was long!) A few snacks are distributed among the aisles as what seems like a way to build anticipation for the bride's arrival, but I am sure they serve some symbolic purpose.
Garlands are exchanged between bride and groom, signifying their desire to be married. An hour later, when the bride sits on the grooms left side, they are married!
Isn't Elizabeth stunning!? The picture on the right is of my friend Laxmi who let Katie and I borrow her saris for the wedding. We arrived early so she could wrap us up properly. If I had done it myself I am certain it would have fallen off when I was dancing! She is such a dear friend.

Following the ceremony, there was another cocktail hour with hor d'oeuvres.
Indian weddings really know how to keep the party progressing! When the doors flew open to the reception hall and I saw the bright pink and purple lights illuminating the floor, walls, and ceiling, I was stunned. I have attended weddings in this room before, but they looked nothing like this!
Eating, drinking, and dancing continued for hours! I copied this gorgeous Indian woman in a yellow sari to learn how to dance. It's all in the shoulders and hips - I'm a good copycat! Katie and I arrived at 3:30 p.m. and left sometime after midnight. I haven't had this much fun in a long time! When we did decide to leave (the bride, groom, and family still dancing away, mind you) there was a taco truck in the parking lot! Are you kidding me? Awesome, just awesome.
Thank you for inviting us to share with you in such beautiful, meaningful, and fun wedding. I pray your union is blessed with everlasting love and happiness.
