Riverfest: day 1

Leaving town by midday on Friday to begin the Memorial Day road trip was brilliant. This is true not only because we made it to Little Rock before dark, but also because we got to lunch at Burge's in Lewisville- my favorite BBQ restaurant!

...aaaand now my mouth is watering for more. Burge's was just the beginning of my weekend of overeating.When we arrived at The Peabody, a plan for the evening was mapped out.

That plan was to head to the Mallard Bar inside The Peabody!

The house cab was gross. I mean unfinishable-gross. So, we went on....

 The Flying Saucer became our home away from home for the weekend. We're a bunch of beerknurds. So many beers to try, so little time ;) Plus, it was right down the road from Riverfest.

I'm pretty sure these two bought out this t-shirt shop. Boyz2Men sounded just like I remembered them in middle school when I was crushing on ______. I can't tell you! What if he reads the blog! haha

 Tison was a really good sport. Poor thing had a fever through most of the evenings activities and skipped out on Ernie Biggs Piano Bar. I hate it for him because we had a blast! That guy played some sexy sax!

This piano duel included Kiss the Girl (which we requested), into Hello Darling, into You Never Even Called Me by My Name. As Russell described it on twitter, " scrumtrulescent;" enough said.

tiny road trip...

Happy Friday! I couldn't be more thrilled that it is the weekend. I have been sick (AGAIN) all week; I just can't seem to get back to my healthy self! I have been under a NyQuil, antibiotic, mucinex coma for the last 5 days in hopes of getting better for this weekend's activities! I'd say I am at about 80% - so we're doing good, people. Ty and I are off to Dallas this afternoon to see Young the Giant and Grouplove perform at the Profit Bar. We purchased the tickets months ago and have been looking forward to it with great expectations. On Saturday we are attending Stefanie's wedding in Ft. Worth, TX. I can't even fathom how gorgeous it is all going to be. ::: xoxo ::: my little dreamers.

Here's a snapshot of me with some of the ZeltaMae girls at the Les Boutique de Noel Preview Party. I love going to this event! I typically go every year with my mom and we browse the venders together, which inevitably gets us into the holiday spirit. It is such a special event and I highly encourage everyone to get out in this finally-feels-like-winter weather :) Tomorrow is the last day of the event. It is located at the Bossier Civic Center from 9 a.m. - 6 p.m. I will also be attending the Highland Jazz and Blues Festival with some friends tomorrow and possibly the House Concert Series on Sunday.  Don't you love an artsy weekend?!

revelling...

As a long time festival goer, I get really excited when it's Revel time. It means fried foods, independent artists, arts & crafts, live music, and italian ice. It also means autumn has arrived! This is my favorite time of year. Right about 5:30pm when the sun is at its most orange and sitting at a perfect angle in the sky, the air is crisp, and the trees are changing colors...this is it people. Evening walks, bike rides, light jackets and scarves...how could this not be the best time of the year!?

Another wonderful thing about the Revel is you will inevitably run into friends partaking in said fried food. Look at those funnel cakes!

This cajun pistol will blow your mind. {pun intended} We ran into one of Tison's high school friends, Jimmy Wooten, who invited us to hear his band at Chicky's Boom Boom Room after the revelling. No, it is not a strip joint like the name implies.

The Jimmy Wooten Trio killed it! I loved every song they played.

Beneath a Balcony...

... is the name of Marc M. Cogman's second album. Traveling from LA, Marc included Shreveport on his tour and played Saturday night at Ernie's Bar.

Louisiana Swamp Stomp...

Dr. Paul McCarthy just dropped of my copy of the newly released Louisiana Swamp Stomp. Dr. McCarthy is (pretty much) solely responsible for the project. Through his great effort to gather the featured Louisiana based musicians, this collection of LA Blues also benefits a good cause!  All proceeds go towards the Northern Louisiana Brain and Spinal Cord Injury Foundation which seeks to raise public awareness of brain and spinal cord injuries.  This project was inspired by Buddy Flett and Carol Fran, two Louisiana musicians who have recently had neurological injuries.

Labor Day Pt.2

J'adore Pretty Things

1. J'adore the first autumn breeze, which actually whipped across my face this morning as I stepped out for work. It literally painted a smile on my face. I am thrilled over the change of seasons. Bring it on fall! I am ready for ya.

2. With school buses and school zones back in place, I am reminiscent of my younger years. I find myself daydreaming of freshly pressed uniforms, new shoes, and school supplies. Oh, how I loved shopping for school supplies! In fact, when I was at Office Max last week looking for business card paper (not something I used to purchase) I left with 3 notebooks and a folder. I have no idea what I am going to do with them yet, but they were too cute to pass up. See?!

3. My favorite movie was, is, and will remain You’ve Got Mail. It is perfect for viewing right now because it starts in the fall in New York. When Meg Ryan and Tom Hanks are in a film together it is the “perfect storm”. Although the AOL instant messaging is a bit archaic now, years later, it continues to be overwhelmingly adorable. The soundtrack is pretty grand as well.

6. I started reading History of Love by Nicole Krauss. I keep it in my bag that I carry to work, and I read it while I wait for the shuttle in the evenings. I have found the perfect bench, shaded and breezy, to pick up where I left off the previous day. J'adore this book and it certainly is a pleasant way to pass the time.

7. Temple St. Clair jewelry has designed a collection for Target. The pieces are very unique and delicate looking. I am excited to see them in the store!

8. I have had a “small” obsession with everything 1950s lately. On Sunday I watched The Glenn Miller Story with my parents and I've been on cloud nine ever since. I love everything from the fashion to the furniture. And let’s be honest- Jimmy Stewart can do no wrong. It’s a must see.

9. The anticipation am I feeling for my IPhone 4 delivery sort of resembles Christmas morning. Anyone have suggestions for iPhone apps?

10. Lastly, j’adore that Elin Nordegren and Tiger Woods divorce is final.
